Reactions have trailed the decision by students of Oxford’s Magdalen college in the UK to take down a painting of Queen Elizabeth from their common room stating that she “represents colonialism.”
Members of the students committee concluded that the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II will now be replaced by âart by or of other influential and inspirational people.â
During the vote to remove the picture one student commented that âpatriotism and colonialism are not really separableâ .
While another added that the picture of the queen must be ditched because âThis is about our communal space and making people feel welcomeâ, according to Guido Fawkes.
