More than 100 developing countries have put out a call for increased ambition on climate change from rich nations, including New Zealand, Marc Daalder reports. New Zealand is named as one of the nations which needs to pledge to steeper emissions cuts, in a new five-point plan for climate change backed by more than half of the world s countries. The document, released by a number of non-government organisations from the global South, lays out five pleas for rich nations and priorities ahead of the global COP26 climate summit in November. On at least two of these measures, New Zealand is falling short.

In reaction to the UN’s State of Food Security and
Nutrition (SOFI) report revealing that nearly 12% of the
world’s population – or 811 million people – were
undernourished last year and that increase is equal to last
five years combined, Oxfam’s Emergency Food Security and
Vulnerable Livelihoods Advisor Emily Farr
