Imo House of Assembly has enacted a law to regulate gaming and betting, including pool, lotteries, casino and related activities in the state.
The chamber also repealed the existing Law No. 44 of 2019, which according to the bill sponsor and Deputy Majority Leader, Emeka Nduka, did not capture some of the important revenue sources in the industry.
During plenary presided over by Speaker Paul Emeziem at a temporary venue in Owerri, the capital, at the weekend, the representative of Ehime-Mbano constituency observed that the bill has the capacity to boost the economic fortune of the state. x
He, therefore, urged his colleagues to give the piece of legislation accelerated hearing and passage. Nduka said: “This bill is important to the government and people of Imo State, as it is geared towards enhancing the revenue generation of the state government.
