3 dead in rural Greene County home ruled murder-suicide

Updated: 3:36 PM EDT April 26, 2021 According to the Greene County Sheriff s Department, Amanda Mosier called 911 around 5:30 p.m. and said her daughter and two other people in the home on South Mountain Springs Drive near Owensburg were dead and believed they had been shot. The Greene County coroner identified the three as 21-year-old Jessica Bixler, 22-year-old Mason George and 14-year-old Cole Bixler. The coroner also determined the cause of death of all three people to be a single gunshot wound to the head. After investigating the evidence and speaking with friends and family members, investigators believe Cole Bixler shot Mason George while he was likely sleeping on the couch. Cole Bixler then shot his cousin, Jessica Bixler, in her bedroom before shooting himself in the same room.

Cole Bixler had spent the night at the George residence as a guest of his cousin, Jessica. Autopsies determined the cause of death for all three was from a single gunshot wound to the head. Following an investigation that included interviews with friends and family members as well as an examination of Cole Bixler’s social media accounts, the sheriff’s department concluded Cole Bixler shot Mason George while he appeared to by lying on his couch asleep. He then shot Jessica Bixler in her bedroom before killing himself in the same room. The handgun used was owned by George.

Two adults and one teenager. 22-year-old Mason George, 21-year-old Jessica Vixler, and one 14-year-old male. Police aren t releasing his name. This took place at a resident s home on Mountain Spring road South of Owensburg, Indiana. The Greene County Sheriff s Department says there is no concern to the general public at this time. This is being handled by the Greene County Police and Indiana State Police.
