Siblings Tanner Baker and Mya Baker each took first place in the boys’ and girls’ 1600m races, respectively, in the 2021 VHSL Class 5A South Region track meet, which took place last Saturday at Gloucester High School. Tanner ran the dash with a time of 4:36.31 and Mya finished the race with a time of 5:40.97.
Nicole Pinder also finished the girls’ 1600 with a time of 5:56.08, followed by Emily Shipe (6:25.09) and Layla Angles (6:48.70). Owen Hogge also competed in the boys’ 1600m dash with a time of 5:31.06.

Tanner Baker (pictured above) came in fourth overall at the VHSL Class 5 Region A Cross Country Championship last Saturday at Bells Mill Park in Chesapeake. Baker ran a 17:25 at the meet and is the only Gloucester runner who qualified to compete in the VHSL State Championships in Leesburg on Friday.
The Gloucester High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams placed fourth and sixth, respectively, at the VHSL Class 5 Region A Cross Country Championship last Saturday at Bells Mill Park in Chesapeake.
