The first Verna Safran Prize ($1,000) has been awarded to Jake Pettingell, a Sarasotan who attends Saint Stephen's Episcopal School, for his play THE REAL WORLD, set in a post-nuclear war era about a family of four living together in a military bunker. Directed by Blake Walton, the play was performed at the festival by actors Owen DeMaio, Jude DeMaio, Ann Morrison (who, with a day's notice, replaced an actor who became ill), and Tony Boothby.

The Unpredictable Times, which has had numerous readings and workshops over the past decade, will make its regional premiere June 18â27 at Rise Above Performing Arts Summer Professional Theatre in Sarasota, Florida.
Co-directed by Johnson and Artistic Director Jacob Ruscoe, the production will feature Jonah McKinley as Brandon, Isabella Yoder as Nicole, Todd Bellamy II as Jake, Leah Henry as Samantha, Owen DeMaio as Carl, and Caroline Russell as the voice of Carl s mom with understudies Bridget Carly Marsh, Judah Immanuel, Ava Pickens, and Zach Thompson.
Rachael Henry Johnson is the production stage manager with Evie Cantalamessa as assistant director and Kayla Cinelli as assistant stage manager.
