tropical storm. as we head south we re going to tell you terra bone county, a couple of counties south to where we are now, much closer to the gulf. had a lot more water troubles. here s video of the coast guard doing rescues. there were 12 people that needed to be rescued. the only road in and out of this gulf coast community was completely under water so helicopters had to come in and pull them out of there. now another part of the county where we saw an alert on our cell phone about mandatory evacuations. a levee was being overtopped, storm water pouring over the levee. the risk there is it s going to breach. 400 people had to be forced from their homes. the sheriff took it into the danger zone there, we got to wake on top of the levee and he told us that their community had

grove, louisiana, is now topping 15 spots. that levee 40 miles outside of new orleans. it is one of two levees that have not been reinforced with funding in the wake of hurricane katrina. moments ago, louisiana governor john bel edwards acknowledged that the overtopping was expected at that levee. we actually anticipated that the back levee would be overtopped, and so we are not surprised by what has happened. but what everyone should understand, no mississippi river levee has been overtopped, and not a single levee in the state of louisiana as of right now has failed or breached. so we re covering this storm across the region. you see our reporters are in all corners of louisiana. the governor urging residents not to go sight-seeing. and look at these new images coming in out of breakway, louisiana, where you see the rising water. and at the same time, a lot of properties on stilts. so there has always been that expectation of rising waters
and it s stagnant, you get the problems with contamination, or it makes its way to the extremesextreme streams, creeks, and rivers. roads being washed away. you have to think of baton rouge in 2016 where they received 15 inches of rain, 10 to $15 billion had to be poured into the cleanup. some people are still sitting in fema trailers three years later and going through the same process all over again. so lots of prayers going on. our heart breaks for them. that s what we ll be watching over the next several days. storm surge, you re saying we still should be concerned about it. but you look at the pictures and the video and you go, that was earlier. yeah. storm surge can be very dangerous. we ve seen reports of the levees that were built after katrina being overtopped still. yes. we ve been watching the core of engineers, they have been doing such a great job looking at all those levees.
