women away everywhere, pushing beating up teachers, beating up moms beating up disney, beating up cruise companies. who are they attracting, juanita? definitely not women, definitely not young people, definitely not lgbtq people, definitely not black people. the attacks have hit across demographics, and i think the reality is, though, desantis isn t going to let up. he s going to double down on this because he s trying to win a primary. and this is the red meat you and charlie just described, they want more of. disney is his calling card. win or lose that case. that s what gave him a national brand and recognition and what he s going to continue to fund-raise off of. you can t outtrump trump. nobody is going to buy a fake version when the real version is also running. thank you both very much. coming up, actor and comedian john leguizamo joins me to talk about his new msnbc series. stay right there.
month, he s beginning to fade, donald trump is locking in that conservative right wing base, and so where does desantis go? he s having real problems trying to, you know, outtrump trump and trump is securing that base. i m believing more and more ron desantis will not run for president, a problem from the left, the right, from donald trump, nikki haley, they are attacking him already and has not even formally said he s going to run and he has to wait for the legislative session is over in florida to make a month so it s problematic for ron desantis. aishah: doug, david, thank you as always. always good to be here. john: i agree with david, not sure he s going to run. he has a calculation to make. if he doesn t run, people will
know, he can take these little shots at trump, but he and other rchs have not figured o it a good strategy at this point for how do you tackle trump. i think some people in the party like chris christie think you have to really give trump some of his own medicine and hit back hard. look, we got to watch that up close the last time trump was in a crowded primary. i remember going to debate after debate after debate, watching these folks on the debate stage almost trying to outtrump trump and that s not necessarily something any of them can do even this time around with the benefit of hindsight the difference is the indictment in manhattan, the potential indictments that come come through in fulton county how could desantis and others try to use the legal problems to their advantage? i think you do see desantis and other contenders making this kind of more subtle argument about electability you know, even if they re not saying the fact that trump under indictment could hurt him down
to do things like rank choice voting and reforms in how we do a primary system that the only way to make it to a general election nowadays is to be more and more extreme. we just reelected ronna mcdaniel to run the rnc after consistently losing election cycles. you don t beat trump by trying to outtrump trump. it does not work. that to me is desantis s great weakness, i d be looking to governors, folk who is did not serve in his administration, someone like a chris sununu who could a purple state governor who served on both sides, a glenn youngkin. there is a lane, but it s narrow, and it s not going to be a former trump official. i heard mitt rom ney the othr day being asked in an interview, he thought in the end the former president couldn t win re-election in a head to head matchup. do you think that s true? i think that s true. i think donald trump cannot win in a head to head against joe biden on the ballot as a democratic nominee.
that florida needs disney more than disney needs florida. a lot of people wondering whether this was thought through. tell us more now about the new congressional map that florida s house also approved. reporter: when i say democrats call this a distraction, they re saying that the governor and republicans are trying to take attention away from this. what you just mentioned. the redistricting maps. that also is something that was part of the special session and essentially, as it passed, it would take away two seats that are now represented by two black members of the house and also, it would give republicans an advantage and as many of 28 districts. there was actually an active protest on the floor about this, and i want you to hear from members of the black caucus after the final vote. these bills are just, again, for him to outtrump trump. and that s basically what it is.
