heard from the romney campaign actually begin to try to outline a positive approach or positive alternative on health care. i think the american people are pretty smart about the economy. i think they are going to see through a republican congress that blocks virtually every measure, you talked about fiscal inaction for job creation, then bashes the president. i think the obama campaign was very smart to go out there and define romney, begin to define romney in battleground states early, go to the bain issue, go to the outsourcing issue, say this is a guy who often made money by creating jobs overseas. i think in some ways, romney has as difficult a time by the time we get through this process talking about the jobs issue we may find out as he has talking about romney care and obama care. the president, while the president is out in ohio and on a bus tour and mitt romney of course did his bus tour, now we learn that governor romney is going to go to europe, going to go to israel, goi
right. they are saying something, but everybody they re saying has been poll tested and sort of squeezed. i want to give credit to mike murphy, i remember about two months ago said, you know what this is going to look like right after romney was sort of santorum dropped out these guys are going to be both of them in horrible shape by the time of the convention and when you look at our poll you see the evidence there because here you have the rough economy, taking a toll on the present, and yet the president s ad campaign right now you can argue the president s winning the campaign. where they are facing off, the president is winning. what s the evidence? romney s negatives are going up and those swing state numbers, not just us, look at the state polls out, everything is mika, really quickly, i want you to respond to that, talk about the swing states but the bain attacks are actually working. it wasn t bain, by the way. he s not been negative on bain up until yesterda
to be a close contest. however, some of the polls you re citing there, there s something calls a latino decisions poll. that was obama speaking to hispanic legislatures at their gathering today. the president enjoys a 36-point advantage in many of these swing states and florida which we know from history and current polling, is vitally important. he enjoys an advantage there, an increase of 3% since they polled in january. the president going to be speaking to his most fervent supporters in tampa. we expect him to call out mitt romney again. we ve released excerpts of this outsourcing issue, that story that appeared in the washington post today, outlining mitt romney s record of doing so among the companies he invesed
alito was wrong. he didn t realize, maybe, what the chamber would do . in terms of the political impact, i m guessing the reason the outsourcing issue, losing jobs to overseas polls is well is it s a very, very nonpartisan issue. it s a thing that resonates with voters left, right and center. when the citizens united ruling came out, voters left, right and centers were initially horrified by this decision. is the new rules about this, is that a potential crossover issue for democrats? well, i think it could be. and if the democrats wanted to start talking about evil influences from abroad, they could maybe do it. the problem is that barack obama is such a we are the world president, and likes to pride himself on not pointing fingers around the globe, but i tell you, for voters and working people out in the country, especially for working men, many of whom have lost their jobs of
to make their own choice about reproductive health. and so i do think that you re going to see it more. but you know, people are going to look at your own district. in rural areas and different kinds of communities around the country. that s not a message that s going to sell. so candidates are picking and choosing. so certainly the outsourcing issue, the outsourcing our jobs, and social security plays more universally, but you re going to see more and more of these attacks on the extremism and using the fact that even in cases of rape or incest that there s complete anti-choice position. you re going to see those ads. congresswoman, jan schakowsky, democrat of illinois trying the turn my frown upside down on this. and doing the most vigorous job anybody has done at defending democratic strategy for these elections this year. thanks for being on the show to do that. thank you, rachel. coming up on the last word with lawrence o donnell,
