ari, good evening from miami southwest from suburbs, where we re experiencing some wind and rain from hurricane matthew s outer bands, but of course, nothing compared to what our fellow floridians up the coast are experiencing now and in the coming hours. we re very pleased so far that there seems to be very close coordination between the federal government, the state government, and local government. we know from past experiences here, with hurricane andrew, and of course, we all remember hurricane katrina, that we cannot take for granted that there are open lines of communication between local, state, and the federal government. but yesterday, governor rick scott asked for a presidential emergency declaration and hours later, mid-day today, president obama did issue that declaration. and that is going to help coordination efforts, it s going to help a lot of these local governments and state government recover more quickly and get that support from the federal government that the f
we don t want to end on a damper, but arthur is certainly putting a damper on this fourth of july weekend. in north carolina, the surf is picking up. to janice dean, on whaen it s going to let up. we just got the latest advisory as of 5:00 p.m. they have not upped the winds, but taking a look at the satellite presentation, i would say that it s a pretty good looking category 2. they still have it at the national hurricane center 90-mile-per-hour sustained winds. it s getting very close to land here. maybe 50 miles south of wilmington, the eye we re talking about. that s a very well-defined storm. tornado watch in effect for the next several hours, as we could see the potential for weak short-lived tornadoes. and then, of course, we re going to start to see the outer bands, we re already seeing the outer bands scrape across portions of north carolina, south carolina. still category 1. we expect it to strengthen as it
the wind, but the rain and the wind are picking up right now. the major concern is going to be these waves and these rip currents. we re expecting them to be strong throughout the day. earlier this morning, i saw some surfers out here. of course, lifeguards are asking individuals not to be out in the water. but if you are, make sure you stay within eyesight. the major concern is drowning here because they re worried that people may be get caught up in the waves and the rip currents and it pulls them under. we ll be stocked with lifeguards here in florida for the next couple of days. they expect these rip currents to continue to increase. the good news is for floridians, arthur is not going to hit us full on. we re mainly getting the outer bands right now. it s heading up north. so the carolinas are most likely to see the major brunt of it. as you can see, it s been raining, windy out here and gusty out here. going to be like that all day long, all along the florida coast. right now we
politics, love and war, and the whole nine yards. congressman davis, quickly a big fear here. and another thing what big news here is the tropical storm isaac which is category one hurricane. we have a new advisory at 5:00 p.m. and sometimes we get that a little early so i will let you know what we hear. hurricane hunters have been flying in the system bringing up the latest in wind gusts. look how big the storm is, 400 miles wide and the outflow stretching from the carolinas. we have had flooding across portions of south carolina, from this storm system, so, far reaching. we will look at fact we could see the threat for tornadoes overnight, again, tornado watch in effect until 7:00 p.m. and another one north of that which is in effect until 9:00 p.m. as the outer bands scrape across land we see the counterclockwise rotation and the net for tornadoes and there are the
per hour storm bringing rain showers already, with outer bands to the puerto rico area. it will not hit puerto rico directly. it will go do the south of that. here is what this official track does. this storm is going to run right along, parallel to all of the islands. when a storm is over land it cannot strengthen. we will see a lot of interaction here. so a lot of rain and wind here with the islands. that keeps it from becoming a major hurricane if we do see that. if it goes further to the south, it has more chance to strengthen to a bigger storm. the official forecast by friday morning brings us to hurricane status right here an the dominican republic and crossing into haiti and running threw cuba. the area has a lot of mountains and that shreds the storm apart. look at what it does by monday morning at 8:00, we are right here, around this western side of florida. if this of mys to the east, we are cutting it all across the
