Following the mass shooting that killed eight in Georgia last month, local groups are working on ways to heal and prevent future acts of violence that target Asian Americans.
While the Cherokee County Sheriff s Department is still investigating the motivations of the shooter, local activist groups have spoken out about the attack on Asian Americans. The Arlington Human Rights Commission released a public statement on the shootings last week. Like many in Arlington, the AHRC is horrified and saddened by the fatal shooting of eight people in Georgia on March 16. While the shootings are still being investigated, the fact that seven women, six of whom were Asian, were killed, demonstrates the deadly combination of racism, misogyny, and gun violence, the statement reads.
