Summer food programs offer help for families | Education

During the summer months, many families face significant challenges in ensuring consistent nutrition for their children due to the closure of school meal programs. This gap exacerbates food insecurity, especially for school-aged children who rely on these programs during the academic year. To address this issue, Kanawha County Schools offers a free summer meal program providing breakfast and lunch to children aged 2-18. Additionally, the statewide Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer (SEBT) program, recently announced by Governor Jim Justice, provides nutrition benefits per eligible student. These initiatives aim to ensure that children continue to receive the necessary nutrition for their growth and development even when school is out.
