The election of Governor Alex Otti has been upheld by the Abia State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Umuahia, the state capital. The three-ground suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Chief Okey Ahiwe, seeking the sack of Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party was struck out by the tribunal for lacking in merit.
Prof Oti said: “I have never in my life participated in an election. But duty came calling. I made enquiries from Abuja, and I said ‘if I perish, I perish.’

Engineer Segun Oni of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Dr Kayode Fayemi of the Action Congress (AC) were squaring up to become Governor in a keenly contested race. Only one local government area, Ido Osi, would determine the victor.
