Heroic First Responders battled a blaze over the weekend in Southern Ocean County. Firefighters from towns around the State responded to this fire that burned approximately 70 acres in Little Egg Harbor. It was originally reported nearly 1,000 acres had burned.

Channel 6 ABC-TV in Philadelphia, numerous firefighters from throughout the state responded to this weekend fire, which took place in a portion of the Bass River State Forest in Little Egg Harbor. This fire coming just days after 4 alarm fire that destroyed a townhouse complex in Little Egg Harbor, which left numerous families homeless.
According to unconfirmed reports, nearly 70 acres burned Sunday in Little Egg Harbor in the area of Otis Bog Road and Stage Road in the Southern end of the Township. Sirens could be heard throughout the township Sunday as crews from around South Jersey came to help in controlling this blaze that scorched nearly 1,000 acres in Ocean County and portions of Burling
Lots of people smelled the smoke, but many are living with the nightmare of fire barrelling down on their homes.
A fire broke out Sunday in the Bass River State Forest, hitting Little Egg Harbor Township. The blaze, being fought by dozens, if not hundreds of firefighters, has forced the closing of parts of Route 9 in Southern Ocean County. Many families have evacuated their homes from the fire and smoke.

Late Sunday night, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service described the fire as a 70-acre wildfire in an area west of Otis Bog Road and south of Stage Road in Little Egg Harbor Township, Ocean County and in Burlington County.

LITTLE EGG HARBOR A wildfire that burned 70 acres along Route 9 in the Bass River State Forest on Sunday continues to burn, creating a haze of heavy smoke on Monday as fire crews
About 100 structures were considered to be at risk with the Pinelands Middle School being used as a voluntary evacuation site.
Firefighters were conducting burnout operations by setting smaller controlled fires along Stage Road and are also working to protect buildings.
The fire was spotted about 4 p.m. from the Bass River fire tower and is inside a large, forested area that has limited accessibility in an area east of the Garden State Parkway bordered by Stage Road to the north and Otis Bog Road to the east.
