Man crushed to death in train accident

INSET: Supt. Ngada confirmed the incident Tonota police are investigating a fatal incident in which a physically challenged 37-year-old man was run over by a train last Sunday afternoon. The train was said to have been moving northwards in Tonota when the tragic incident occurred Tonota police Station Commander, Oteng Ngada confirmed the incident to The Voice this week. “The accident happened behind Sunset complex around 4pm. According to our investigations the man was physically disabled and he had a problem with walking,” he said. Supt. Ngada added that the train drivers spotted the man lying motionless on the tracks and tried to caution him by blowing the horn. “He was not moving and since the train does not brake instantly, it ended up running him over,” he said.

ILLUSTRATION: Donkey cart INSET: Ngada A 59-year-old woman of Lephane ward in Tonota lost her life after a donkey cart she was traveling in overturned yesterday (Friday). The freak accident happened at Dimutswe cattle post along Mabesekwa road at around 10 am. Tonota police Station Commander, Oteng Ngada, confirmed the incident. “Our preliminary investigations indicate that the donkey cart overturned after hitting a stump. The report reached us late at around 1345 hours because of poor network connectivity in the area and lack of transport. “When they were still waiting for help, an ambulance luckily arrived and took them to Tonota clinic where the woman was certified dead. Apparently there were two passengers and the driver in the cart, going to the cattle post and the driver was the deceased’s 17-year-old grandson,” revealed the Station Commander.

IN CUSTODY: Tebogo A youthful step-mother has left Tonota residents in shock after she allegedly beat up her 4-year-old step-daughter to death. Mpho Tebogo, 22, is said to have attacked Ashantie Kholhiwe, hitting her and repeatedly knocked her against the wall until she collapsed. Her plea was reserved and she told court she would conduct her own defence. State Prosecutor, Inspector Kenneth Edward, pleaded with the court to remand the accused person in custody as the matter was still fresh and investigations had just commenced. “We are yet to record the statements from the witnesses. I did not manage to bring the Investigating officer as he had to go to Nyangabgwe hospital to conduct the post mortem. I plead that I be given a date to avail him,” Edward said.

Girl, 15, stabs grandparents

INVESTIGATING: Ngada Reportedly annoyed at being reprimanded by her grandmother over her wayward behaviour, a 15-year-old girl is said to have stabbed the elderly woman twice. The Tonota teen then allegedly turned the knife on her grandfather, lashing out at the old man when he tried to rescue his wife during the Thursday night showdown. Speaking to The Voice, Tonota Station Commander, Oteng Ngada revealed the girl’s grandfather reported the incident at around 2000 hours on the day it happened – 25 February. “She was arrested that same evening at their home in Manyanda ward. She did not attempt to flee and was later released pending investigations,” stated Ngada, adding the elderly couple are in their 80s.
