Controversy: NSA claims arms funds missing, recants under pressure

This comes over a month after the ex-service chiefs’ resignation and replacement by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd). The ex-service chiefs are the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin (retd.); Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai (retd.); Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas (retd.); and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (retd.).

Share The immediate past Chief of Army Staff, Ambassador Tukur Buratai on Saturday denied diverting funds meant for procurement of arms while in office. The National Security Adviser (NSA) Babagana Monguno, had on Friday said that the newly appointed service chiefs did not meet the funds approved for the procurement of arms upon their resumption of office. Ambassador Buratai made the clarification, in a statement signed by his lawyer, Osuagwu Ugochukwu. However, moments later, the NSA countered the report, saying that he was misquoted by the media. The former service chief has now said those with questions should channel their queries to the Ministry of Defence for details on how funds meant for arms were spent.
