Police: Clean snow, ice off vehicles, obey Jessica s Law

CONWAY — Police say a driver s windshield was smashed on Sunday by ice flying off the roof of a box truck, and the police chief is asking drivers to remember it is illegal not to clear snow and ice off their cars before getting behind the wheel.  The snow-clearing requirement is known as Jessica s Law, which is named after a 20-year-old woman killed in Peterborough in 1999 after ice flew off the top of a truck. The New Hampshire law was passed in 2002. The Conway Police logs for Sunday say the incident of ice flying off the box truck happened in the vicinity of Saco Woods Condominiums on East Main Street (Route 113) around noon.

2020 Year in Review — the year in quotes

At least not in the city like mine.” — Democratic presidential candidate Peter Buttigieg during an editorial board at The Conway Daily Sun on Jan. 3. “They had a little woodpile for protection. That’s about it.”— Ossipee Police Chief Joe Duchesne, describing his officers’ lack of protection during a recent shootout. Judge to hear Right to Know case over police certification

A judge has scheduled a hearing for next month that could decide whether a state board must provide access to meetings and records involving the certification of New Hampshire police officers. The Merrimack County Superior Court hearing is on a case filed by the Union Leader Corp. after the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council closed a discipline-related certification hearing in October. The hearings addressed the certification of Loudon police officer Justin Swift, who was fired from his previous employer, the Ossipee Police Department. While dozens of state boards hold open hearings for licensing and certification of professions ranging from nursing to home inspection, law enforcement certification hearings are closed.
