WASHINGTON The Federal Communications Commission today denied a request to stay its unanimous decision to authorize Ligado Networks to deploy a low-power terrestrial nationwide network using portions of its licensed spectrum. A petition filed by the U.S. Department of Commerce s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) last May sought to delay the proceeding, but the Commission ruled today that NTIA did not satisfy the requirements of a stay, in particular, the demonstration of an irreparable injury or a likelihood of success on the merits on its related petition for reconsideration of the Commission s 2020 Order and Authorization.
Samsung s latest phones feature all kinds of fancy technologies and functions OLED screens, Snapdragon 888 CPUs, at least 8 GB of RAM and plenty of other acronyms that have been exhaustively outlined by gadget-focused publications like The Verge and Cnet. However, the phones are also significant for the 5G industry for these five reasons:
1. They re $200 cheaper than previous versions.
The initial batch of 5G phones from Samsung and others were searingly expensive. Indeed, most 5G smartphones during 2019 cost more than $1,000. Samsung itself pushed that ceiling up to $2,000 with its first Galaxy Fold.
During 2020, though, 5G phone prices began to fall back down to Earth. For example, the Google Pixel 4A 5G costs just $500.
During my self-imposed quarantine away from my now typical reading diet of literary giants, I took some time to see what people were writing about the telecom world, since this is the usual time for year-end wrap-ups and new year predictions.
I agree with Iain Morris that the crystal ball s usefulness is stymied by the realities of today s world and appreciated his clever approach of predicting non-events. In that spirit, I will forego predictions and instead share my reactions to some of what I ve seen coming across the Light Reading network and elsewhere. I inject what I hope is received as a small dose of reality into discussions of important telecom trends.

The Small Cell Forum (SCF) said it will begin working on hosting architectures that support multiple operators, private networking and other alternative deployment models.
