bp, Aker and Statkraft join forces for offshore wind in the

Norwegian (OSLO, 14 June 2021) bp today agreed to join Statkraft and Aker Offshore Wind in a consortium bidding to develop offshore wind energy in Norway.  The partnership – in which bp, Statkraft and Aker Offshore Wind will each hold a 33.3% share – will pursue a bid to develop offshore wind power in the Sørlige Nordsjø II (SN2) licence area. SN2’s favourable location provides power export access to local and adjacent markets. The consortium also intends to explore opportunities to provide clean power to electrify offshore oil and gas facilities. The partnership would work with local suppliers, building industrial competencies for Norway’s offshore wind market, and contribute toward value creation in the Nordic and European energy market.

First floating solar plant in Albania starts commercial

(Oslo/Tirana, 3 June 2021) Statkraft, Europe’s largest renewable energy generator, in cooperation with Norwegian supplier Ocean Sun has started commercial operations at the first unit of its floating solar project in Albania, further contributing to the country’s renewable energy journey. The project is placed at the Banja reservoir in Albania, where Statkraft is operating its 72-megawatt Banja hydropower plant. After the successful completion of the first floating solar unit and connection to the grid, the plant is now generating renewable energy and injecting the power into the Albanian national electricity grid. Floating solar power involves installing solar panels on floating structures on a body of water, such as a lake, fjord or ocean, or in a hydropower reservoir. Each unit consists of a floating ring and a thin membrane. Combined with the cooling of the panels from the water below, it is this membrane and the large area that makes this concept unique. The technology is
