Latvian bobsleigh team seeking new pushers ahead of selection trials Wednesday, 28 April 2021 The Latvian bobsleigh team are looking for new push athletes ahead of the next International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) World Cup season. The call comes as Latvia prepares to stage selection trials on May 15 at Murjāņi Sports Gymnasium near Sigulda. The Latvian team are looking to strength their squad which includes Olympic gold medallist Oskars Melbārdis and 2020 European champion Oskars Ķibermanis. Melbārdis was part of the four-man team that claimed gold at Sochi 2014 where he also won two-man bronze. He then went on to secure bronze in the two-man event at Pyeongchang 2018 alongside Jānis Strenga.

Friedrich records seventh two-man bobsleigh win of IBSF World Cup season

Sunday, 20 December 2020 Germany s Francesco Friedrich was dominant once more in Innsbruck, winning his seventh International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) World Cup race of the season. Along with push athlete Alexander Schüller, Friedrich posted the best two runs of the day to storm to victory by 0.78sec in the two-man bobsleigh contest. Olympic and world champion Friedrich has one hand on the IBSF World Cup title this season, having won all but one of the eight races so far. Four races remain this season. Friedrich is the reigning two-man and four-man World Cup, world and Olympic champion. Latvia s Oskars Ķibermanis and Matīss Miknis backed up a strong first run to win the silver medal in a close battle for the other spots on the podium.
