Careless smoking cause of apartment fire Posted on July 8, 2021 by oshawaexpress in CITY, NEWS Careless smoking was the cause of a devastating fire on Ritson Road South, according to Oshawa Fire Services. Oshawa Fire is warning of the dangers of careless smoking following the apartment building fire at 1420 Ritson Rd. S. around 7 a.m. on Saturday, July 3. More than 60 community members were displaced from their homes. Fire crews and fire responders arrived to find flames breaching the roof of the apartment building, from a third floor window. Firefighters rescued many residents, two of which were sent to hospital. Community members impacted by the fire were offered DRT shuttle service to a temporary shelter set up at the South Oshawa Community Centre by the city and region’s department of social services and housing.

Mobile vaccination clinic coming to Oshawa Tuesday Posted on July 5, 2021 by oshawaexpress in CITY, COVID-19, NEWS The Region of Durham Health Department will be hosting a mobile vaccination clinic for Oshawa residents who are 12 years of age or older. The clinic will be held on Tuesday, July 6 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the South Oshawa Community Centre parking lot, located at 1455 Cedar St. The mobile clinic is for first dose vaccinations for youth 12 to 17 with the Pfizer vaccine, first dose vaccinations for those 18-plus with the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, and second dose vaccinations for those 18-plus with the Moderna vaccine.
