SMALL and medium-sized businesses in Somerset are being urged to play their part in the upgrade of the A303 near Stonehenge. The Department for Transport (DfT) announced on November 12 that the single carriageway stretch of road between Amesbury and Berwick Down would be dualled, with a new tunnel running through the Stonehenge World Heritage Site. Highways England, which put forward the £1.7bn scheme, intends for construction on the new route to begin by 2023 once preliminary works have been completed. Somerset firms are now being asked to put themselves forward to assist in delivering the project, bidding for the various contracts and opportunities as they arise.
