Sunday, March 15, 2020, would remain a black day for the residents of Ado Soba in Abule Ado community of Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State.
This was due to the early morning gas pipeline explosion that rocked the peaceful community and levelled to the ground: high rise buildings, bungalows, school, shops as well and led to the sudden death of many people there within a twinkle of an eye.
The aftermath of the devastation was seen and felt within the community and its environs but Ado Soba suffered a large chunk of the natural phenomenon in which no fewer than 23 people allegedly lost their lives.
One of the longest established hospitals in the region turns the page on an exciting new chapter in its history this week, with the opening of the newly developed 24-bed block at Croom Orthopaedic Hospital.
‘The Maigue Unit’, named for the river that flows through Croom village, is a modern, state-of-the-art ward complex, with its 24 en-suite single rooms built around a courtyard garden area, and forms a visually stunning architectural showpiece at the entrance to Croom Orthopaedic Hospital.
Work is also ongoing on the first floor of the facility to complete a new €15m theatre suite, complete with four new operating theatres, a first stage recovery room and reception area, as well as a new Sterile Services Department and other ancillary support spaces.

The House of Representatives on Monday held a public hearing on five bills, one of which was seeking establishment of a Federal University of Medicine and Health Sciences in Niger State.
Two of the bills are to establish two Federal Medical Centres, one of which is to be located in Wase Federal Constituency, Plateau State, where the Deputy Speaker Ahmed Wase, has been representing since 2007.
The legislations are titled, ‘A Bill for An Act to Enhance and Promote the Health and Wellbeing of Nigerians to Boost Local Healthcare Capacity,’ and ‘A Bill for an Act to Establish the Federal University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Bida, Niger State, for the Purpose of Providing Qualitative Education in Medicine and Health Sciences.’
