Deltona commission approves rezoning; rural Osteen could see 189 homes

Both groups want their region s notable rural areas left alone by developers. In Deltona, it s about 110 acres of land located west of Little Lake, though part of the lake is included in the boundary, and just south of Lake Hutchinson. A developer has plans to put 189 single-family homes on the site. The surrounding area also includes several miles of the River of Lakes Heritage Corridor, which was designated in February as a National Scenic Byway. On Monday night, Deltona s commission voted 4-3 with commissioners Loren King, Dana McCool and David Sosa dissenting in support of the request to change about 110 acres from county prime agriculture to city residential planned-unit development dubbed Hickory Lakes Preserve.

Ormond Beach moves forward with Plantation Oaks zoning Ormond Beach s City Commission unanimously agreed Tuesday night to approve a second reading for rezoning the Plantation Oaks subdivision, as well as lifting its 55-and-over age restriction. They also approved a letter of support for Volusia County to purchase 76 lots in the subdivision for conservation. After months of contention, the two items regarding the subdivision passed with only around 30 people in attendance at the meeting, and no comments regarding the agenda items themselves.  Plantation Oaks, the source of consistent debate over the past six months in Ormond Beach, has been in the works since 2002 and is separated into three phases. Phase one, which will have 699 lots, is the phase the commission has been discussing.

OBCC Sending Letter Of Support To VCC For Land Purchase At Plantation Oaks

Feb 3, 2021 11:48 AM Ormond Beach, FL - Ormond Beach City Commissioners (OBCC) voted unanimously at last night s (February 2) regular meeting to send a letter of support to the Volusia County Council (VCC). The support is for the County making the decision to move forward with the purchase of 76 lots that are part of the Plantation Oaks subdivision along the Ormond Scenic Loop & Trail. In a memorandum from the Ormond Beach City Manager: The City of Ormond Beach strongly supports efforts to protect this special resource.Much like a state park, increasing the natural vegetative buffer along Old Dixie Highwayand preserving this unique gem of Central Florida will be something that is enjoyed andutilized by residents all throughout Volusia County and beyond. In a draft letter to the OBCC: at a meeting on January 19th, the OBCC sent a formal request to the VCC asking that the buffer along the Loop be expanded through the purchase of those 76 lots in Plantation Oaks.
