Middlesbrough s latest tanning shop is taking on more staff - after unprecedented demand from Teessiders wanting a post-lockdown glow.
Within three days of opening on Super Monday, The Tanning Shop was outperforming most of its 86 stores.
A LONG-AWAITED replacement for the Southlands Centre has faced a setback over access concerns. The Ormesby Road hub was closed in 2018 and demolished the following year despite outcry from tenants and a campaign to save it from the bulldozers. Now a vote to rubber stamp a £1.7m “New Southlands” has been pushed back until June at the earliest after Middlesbrough councillors shared worries about traffic being funnelled through a nearby estate. Plans show a “modern” single storey building has been lined up for the East Middlesbrough site featuring a “multi-use hall” and two other “multi-purpose rooms”. A total of £500,000 for the revamp will come from Middlesbrough’s “Town Fund” allocation of £21.9m.
