Louisiana $15 minimum wage bill advances, but faces fierce head winds
A bill to eventually raise Louisiana s minimum to $15 per hour cleared a Senate committee Wednesday, but the measure will face fierce resistance as the debate widens.
The Senate Labor Committee reported Democratic New Orleans Sen. Troy Carter s bill favorably on a 3-2 vote, but Carter s previous efforts have stalled on the Senate floor, where Republicans hold a near super majority. If we give our people the opportunity to do better our communities will do better, Carter said when presenting his bill.
Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards supports the bill as he has supported previous efforts.
