Aric Fishman has been a rock climber since he was a teenager. When he moved to Thunder Bay 14 years ago to attend Lakehead University, he embraced ice climbing as a natural progression of his passion for climbing.
“The opportunities here are incredible,” says Fishman, who is the president of the Nipigon Ice Fest, an annual event celebrating ice climbing in the region. (The event is being held virtually this year.) “There’s a lot of ice, and good quality ice.”
This season has been a somewhat “thin year” for ice, he says, “but we’re very spoiled by how much ice we have in general. The region is loaded with ice climbs. Even the thinnest year in a decade, there’s still plenty.”

Two recent shark attacks in Caribbean, one of them fatal for a UK tourist, have sparked some fear and concern among those who swim in the ocean.
But Dr Farahnaz Solomon, a fisheries biologist at the Institute of Marine Affairs, does not think there is a greater chance of someone being bitten in TT waters.
“In general, there is always the possibility of a shark attack once sharks are present. However, that probability is incredibly low. The likelihood of being attacked and killed by a shark are 1 in 3.75 million – less than the chances of dying by lightning strike or excessive cold.”

High in the hills and overlooking the beautiful city of Zihuatanejo sits a charming restaurant known as Orient Bay, now in its second year. But like restaurants all over Mexico, this year has brought its challenges.
But owner and chef Didier Pic has hit upon a way to encourage clientele to come back by combining his love of Arabic and Mediterranean food and the performing arts.
Born in Marseille, France, Pic received his training in culinary arts on the French Riviera, in Nice. His extensive career has taken him around the globe as an executive chef to Saudi Arabia, where he reported to Prince Ibrahim Al Saud; to the Camino Real Polanco, famous for Mexico’s largest banquet facility, which accommodates up to 4,000 people; and to Japan, Poland, Spain, Tunisia, China, Thailand, and the United States, to name a few more.
