A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ugbo Iyiriaro, has been reportedly kidnapped along Benin-Abraka Road.
The Guardian learnt that the incident occurred on Tuesday between Ugo and Ugboko communities in Orhionmwon Council of Edo State.
It was also learnt that Iyiriaro left Benin for his community before the kidnappers aborted the journey half way.
A source, who pleaded anonymity, said Iyiriaro was driving to his Umoghunokhua Community with a plan to return to Benin shortly after, when the abductors seized him. x
It was further gathered that the kidnappers had already made contact with the family of the victim, demanding for N20 m ransom.

Members of the Congress of University Academics (CONUA) at Ambrose Alli University (AAU) Ekpoma, yesterday, appealed to Governor Godwin Obaseki to intervene in the institution’s lingering crisis.
They specifically pleaded with the governor to save them from economic hardship by ensuring adequate funding of the university and pay the several months of outstanding salaries, which triggered the ongoing strike by academic staff.
CONUA made the call in a statement titled: We Await Your Crucial Intervention To End The Funding Crisis In Ambrose Alli University, endorsed by its chairman, Dr. Iyawe Hanson and Secretary, Dr. Nwoke Ernest in Benin City.
Following herdsmen attacks and killings in Ugo Community in Orhionmwon Council of Edo State recently, residents of the community have appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari, the state government and security agencies to intervene and stop the carnage.
While counting their losses in the mayhem, a farmer in the community, Michael Eghaghe, said the herders also killed several farmers at Ugo Community and set their farm produce ablaze. x
Narrating his ordeal to The Guardian in Benin City, Eghaghe said the herdsmen have been grazing on his farm since 2017, adding that he planted cocoa, cassava, pineapples and plantains on the 64 hectares farmland.
