With gang violence rising in Metro Vancouver, the mayors of B.C.’s two biggest cities are ready to pull the trigger on banning handguns as soon as a federal law passes.
However, an expert says such bans will likely not stem gang violence because gangsters are already breaking federal law by carrying handguns.

The federal government on Tuesday announced new gun legislation that would allow municipalities to ban handguns through bylaws restricting their possession, storage and transportation. The Liberal government said the measures would be backed up with serious penalties to enforce these bylaws, including jail time for people who violate municipal rules.
