world so it belongs to the u.n. we have a responsibility to the millions who are worried about where they ll find their next meal. or how they ll feed their families. joining us now is u.s. ambassador michael carpenter. he serves as the permanent representative of the united states, the organization for security and cooperation in europe. ambassador mr. ambassador, it s good to have you on. how to solve this potential crisis, given the war in ukraine, from every expert analysis it appears that it s going to be dragging on for quite some time. yeah. well, this is a very severe problem, as you just identified for the entire world community. because ukraine is the bread basket for a lot of developing world. not just wheat. it s the number one exporter of sunflower oil. and many other staples that we and countries around the world. and russia right now is blockading the ukrainian ports
direction. here with me now is a familiar face, of course, senior fellow and former spokesperson for the organization for security and cooperation in europe. michael, great to have you here with us on this day all eyes clearly on moscow. let me pick up where we left off. canada opening an embassy in kyiv, how significant is that? what is the message that that conveys you think? thanks for having me. as a canadian, i m very happy that s been happening because i ve called for it for quite some time. canada has historically projected itself to be very strong. trudeau has famously said our world needs more canada. symbolically it s good canada is showing support to the zelenskyy government. canada was the first western
of those families, including, of course, that baby. and joining me now is the senior fellow at the atlantic and the former spokesperson for the organization for security and cooperation in europe. michael, great to have you on the show. let s talk about what we saw overnight, really, in lviv, where 40 miles from poland and seeing yet again russia targeting these supply lines, the infrastructure. what can you tell me from what you saw and the sources you ve been speaking to? yeah, well, major escalation. i saw the smoke from my window not far from here. and it seems what s happening is the russians are targeting the in infrastructure, transportation infrastructure that moves people and agriculture and cargo, but also military equipment. the lethal weaponry can t get to the front line fast enough, i m being told, so, if they are trying to chokehold these supply lines, that s going to be a big problem. the other thing is, of course, civilian in sfrastructure was
