One of Canberra's brightest young musicians is about to take off to study at Albert Einstein's old college in Switzerland, but not before he gives a farewell concert, reports HELEN MUSA.
At the 2011 Young Artist Competition put on by Music Worcester in Alden Hall at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, the Music Guild Prize was won by 12-year-old cellist Zlatomir Fung of Westboro.
The competition was for musicians ages 12-18 in Worcester County. Fung received a $1,100 scholarship and an invitation to perform at the Music Guild s Luncheon and Musicale.
Ten months later in 2012, Fung was performing as a cello soloist at Symphony Pro Music concerts in Westboro and Hudson. I remember the room in which the composition happened, Fung, now 21, said. A lot of these competitions I did, I remember quite vividly because I was building it up in my mind as the biggest thing I ve ever done. And it was true. At the time, it was the biggest thing I ve ever done.
