State officials for the first time Friday detailed the ethnicities of people confirmed to have died of hyperthermia amid Oregon’s heat wave, as well as the ZIP codes where they succumbed to the historic heat. Seventy-two of the 83 confirmed hyperthermia victims were white, according to data from the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office. Four of the heat victims were Hispanic, and two were Black. One apiece were of Asian, Native American or Pacific Islander descent. The ethnicities of two people who died were not listed.
