Telecom, technology, all of i would like to start with the biggest issue, which is health care. We know your Senate Colleagues on a bill maybe behind closed doors, circulating language, where do you assess the status of this . Greg in the first few months of the year, when we had this task before us, we got a lot of public suggestions from some of our colleagues across the aisle about what we should or shouldnt do. After we passed the bill and sent it over to the senate thats been kind of radio silence thereafter. They got a tough job. I respect that. I know theyre serious about their work. I know Lamarr Alexander is a terrific legislator. If anyone can help pull this together its him and orrin hatch and the others that are involved. Its hard. Its hard doing major reform of entitlement programs, something involving insurance at any level, especially Health Insurance, its very difficult work. And they have virtually no margin of votes, like we had no margin to work with, theirs is tight
Body. Thank you, mr. President. I yield the floor. A senator plop . The presiding officer the senator from washington. Ms. Cantwell i come to the floor tonight to raise concern about a proposed Senate Health care bill that might move through the United States senate, as my colleagues are pointing out, without hearing, without attention to the details actually, almost in secret. I guess it would be secret if we didnt know exactly what was in the house bill. It would be even more secret. People have said it will be about 80 of what was in the house bill. I can agree with President Trump. That was a mean bill. If it is just 80 mean, i can guarantee that you its still going to be mean. I say that because i have been at home listening to my constituents. They do not appreciate one bit if youre Harbor View Hospital and you are going to cut 800 million out of their budget because of the cap on medicaid and you are going to leave a hospital without resources, they are mad. If you are talking a
Work they will do. May they seek in all their labors to please and glorify you as you fill them with your grace. May they not become weary in doing what is right, knowing that in due season they will reap if they faint not. Lord, let your peace flood their hearts and help them to realize that it is by your permission that they will breathe their next breath. May they permit lifes problems to make them more dependent on your guidance and strength. We pray in your holy name. Amen. The president pro tempore please join me in reciting the pledge of allegiance to our flag. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of america, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under god, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Mr. Mcconnell mr. President. The presiding officer the majority leader. Mr. Mcconnell weve been debating obamacares fail use and failures and what to do about them for so many years now. Weve heard so many distress stories from constituents who have
Beloved one gets ill, that they will have the peace of mind to know they will be able to get the health care they need. They want bankrupt in the process. And yet here we are tonight, debating a bill titled the better care at. Better care as there ever been a bill in the United States history of america so more perversely named then this better care act which strips care from 22 million americans. I was very struck by one equation of this bill and that is that it provides to the richest 400 americans 33 billion over a 10 year period, thats enough to pay for health care in medicaid for 700,000 individuals. 700,000 individuals, it rips the healthcare away from them to get 33 billion to the richest 400 families. That is obscene. That is certainly not better care. Its hard for me to imagine a Single Member of this body would vote to proceed on this bill but here we are until we get agreement that we are not going to proceed. We have to continueto carry on the spike. We know that 50 Million
