First case of omicron variant detected in Lane County resident

After completing a contact investigation, it is believed this resident contracted omicron while traveling and it was not the result of community spread in Lane County, health officials said.

Two COVID-19 Variants Found In Neighboring Oregon Counties

1:32 KLCC s Tiffany Eckert has this report on the discovery of two different COVID-19 variants one in Lane Co. and another in Douglas Co.-announced on the same day. COVID-19 B.1.429 also dubbed the California variant, was discovered in Lane County through genetic sequencing by the Oregon Genomics and Cell Characterization Core Facility at the University of Oregon. Scientists worldwide continue to monitor changes in the COVID-19 virus, including changes to the spikes on the surface of the virus, Credit Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Health officials believe this viral mutation is “home grown” in the US and possibly in California or the desert southwest area. It’s been found in most states and nearly two dozen countries.
