(Depoe Bay, Oregon) – Along a rather intensely-traveled bend in the highway of the central Oregon coast, just before you get to Depoe Bay, Boiler Bay and its state park, Boiler Bay State Scenic Wayside, sit huddled together. One is actually the headland next to the bay; the other is the tiny bay itself.

The main attraction is simply watching the waves from this parking lot, situated where Seaside s beach curves around abruptly and the contours of the shore take the lead from Tillamook Head. Yet there s a lot more going on here than just the waves: a handful of secret attractions and factoids lurk here.
Favorite sights get unruly here quite easily. Seaside s Cove compresses the energy of the waves and keeps them coming onto shore sizably higher than most areas of the Oregon coast. Then, when even the smaller, calmer waves lap at the rocky shoreline, these smooth, rounded stones make cool rattling noises.

By Oregon Coast Beach Connection staff (Depoe Bay, Oregon) - It s a strangely beautiful yet jagged spot that s tucked away behind the usual features of Depoe Bay, containing an amazing span of puffy, bubble-like basalt cliffs as well as more ouchy spires and spikes of basalt. This little spot on the central Oregon coast is hard to find and thus nary another soul usually wanders here. However, there are dangers here: almost sheer cliffs that can lead you to your demise if you’re not careful. Still, it doesn’t take much to be safe here, and thus the rewards are many.
Fat Tire Beach Biking at Bandon A Hot New Thing on S. Oregon Coast

(Bandon, Oregon) – There s much about the southern Oregon coast s town of Bandon that s enticing, especially in the natural world. Sands that seemingly go on forever, interspersed by massive rocky blobs or spikes that help create a labyrinth, and that always-engaging ocean and its nearby wildlife. One activity that s coming into focus of late along the entire Oregon coast is the phenomenon of fat tire biking – bikes with wider-than-usual tires that allow you to roam nearly unhindered along the sands and at a quicker pace. It s a new kind of beach adventure, and one the Bandon Visitors Center recently touted, showing off a myriad of ways to dig a bit deeper into beach exploration.
