ALBANY – Ulster County had the highest rate of job loss in the Hudson Valley/Catskills in the 12 months ended in January, the State Labor Department reported Thursday. The county’s 10.6 percent decline in jobs compared to Greene County, at 3.7 percent decline, the lowest in the region.
The Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division and Sullivan County each experienced a 9.9 percent loss of jobs.
The Orange-Rockland-Westchester Metro Area had 9.4 percent job loss.
Columbia County lost 9.2 percent of its jobs year over year in January.
Regionwide, the Hudson Valley lost 9.6 percent of its jobs.
Losses occurred in leisure and hospitality (-22,400); education and health services (-20,000); trade, transportation and utilities (-13,200); other services (7,400); financial activities (-3,500); manufacturing (-3,100); professional and business services (-2,900; information (-2,000); and natural resources, mining, and construction (

Job Losses
ALBANY – The Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division suffered the largest job losses in the Hudson Valley region in December, the State Labor Department reported Thursday.
Jobs in the two-county area fell by 10 percent compared to December 2019.
That is contrasted with Ulster County, which lost 5.2 percent of its jobs in December 2020.
The Orange-Rockland-Westchester Metro Area saw jobs fall by 9.4 percent in the last month of 2020 while they fell by 9.2 percent in Greene County.
Sullivan County suffered an 8.2 percent job loss, while they fell by 6.0 percent in Columbia County.

ALBANY – Statewide job losses in November stood at 8.4 percent. The labor department reported only one area of the Hudson Valley had a higher rate of job loss – the Orange-Rockland-Westchester Metro Area had 8.7 percent.
Jobs fell the least at 1.0 percent in Greene County, also the lowest in the state.
Jobs declined in the Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division by 8.3 percent in November.
Sullivan County lost 7.3 percent of its jobs, while Columbia County lost 6.0 percent of its jobs, and Ulster County jobs fell by 4.3 percent.
