Breaking news, a massive evacuation effort is under way right now as more than 100,000 people are trying to get out of the way of a potentially catastrophic failure at the Lake Oroville dam. If that is not addressed and we dont take care of that and mitigate it properly, essentially what were looking at is approximately a 30foot wall of water good evening. Im eric thomas. Were waiting for the start of a News Conference on the latest of the situation at Lake Oroville dam. The dam is near chico 160 highs northeast of San Francisco. The problem is with an emergency spillway designed to relieve pressure on the dam when its holding too much water. Morning. Good morning to you, yeah, it has only weakened slightly down to 155mile per hour winds it only needs to be 156 to be a cat 5 again you can see how intense this storm is. You can see the eye here and it does have some of that overcast now, so it is starting to get upper level winds blowing cloud cover over the eye so it is not quite as clear as it was over the last several hours. The reason it is starting to weaken some, still a cat 4 storm this is not a storm you want to be in the path of it will start to make more of a northerly track over the next couple days then eventually looks like making its way right along the eastern side of jamaica, and then through eastern cuba and then into the bahamas it will weaken along the path as it interacts with land but still talking about a significant system having a islands as it moves across them.
