Orange County prosecutors Monday reported a conviction in a cold-case kidnapping from 1993, thanks to work done to clear out a backlog of rape kits.
Michael Ray Armijo, 52, was sentenced to 24 years to life in prison on March 11, according to court records. He was convicted at trial Feb. 18 of two felony counts of kidnapping to commit robbery with sentencing enhancements for the use of a gun. The county received a $1.86 million grant to inventory thousands of kits taken after sexual assaults to identify which ones need to be tested, according to the Orange County District Attorney s Office.

Police provided an update on a mass shooting in Orange, California that left four people dead. On Thursday afternoon, Orange Police Department Lieutenant Jennifer Amat said the Orange County Crime Lab was at the scene of the shooting where the identity of the victims was not yet confirmed. She added, her office will provide the identities as soon as they are made available.

Grosso, who lived in Costa Mesa, was an Arcadia native who rose to fame as a professional skateboarder in the late 1980s and later became a beloved ambassador for the sport through his YouTube show, his mentorship of younger pro skaters and his public reflections on battles with drug addiction. He died at the age of 51 at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach.
Severe cardiomegaly (enlargement of the heart) with dilatation, a clinical history of hypertension and anxiety, and obesity were listed as other conditions in the autopsy report obtained by The Times through a public records request. The manner of his death was ruled an accident.
