Unanimous and labor day it is. Official word tonight the new eastern span of the bay bridge will open right after labor day. Good evening. March september 3rd on calendar after decades of debate. Years of construction. Newer safer version of the bay bridge will be reality in just weeks. But to get the job done the entire bridge will close for 5 days. Officials want this to happen over holiday weekend. The fact that that lower traffic level also men that all of the construction crew have better access to the bridge on labor day meaning more likelihood that we can pull it off. Under the schedule that we have been assigned is also i think another reason to move forward. This labor day decision made today follow report by federal highway administrators that endorsed caltrans temporary fix to a brittle bolt problem open the bridge and confirming the bridge will be safety use while workers complete the permanent fix.
