despite the progress that s been made on the progress, mattis warned cownts parts that gotiations with north korea would be bumpy road. at meeting with defense officialsm and japan, the u.s. and allies need to keep the pressure on and maintain a strong defensive stance throughout the negotiations so that diplomats can negotiate from a position strength. we must remain vigilant and we will continue to implement all un security council resolutions on north korea. north korea will receive relief only when it demonstrates a verifiable and irreversible steps to denuclearization. just over a week before the summit, the white house continues to tamp down expectations as well and now suggest those meetings would be the beginning of a much longer negotiation with north korea. negotiations take time. everything is on the table during the negotiations but you
