The government of Karnataka will decide on releasing the comprehensive caste census report after the Congress party takes a stand at the national level. The state s own caste census data is readily available but has not been made public due to fears of backlash from communities that may have decreased in number. The Congress government had ordered the caste census and socio-economic survey during its previous term. The decision to release the report will be based on the Congress party s stance and the government will abide by it.
The BJP and Congress parties in Odisha have decided to boycott the election for the Odisha Assembly Speaker on September 21. Both parties claim that the date of the election clashes with the Nuakhai festival, an important agrarian event in the western region of the state.
The southern state is currently battling a crisis arising out of an order from the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) ordering it to release 5000 cusecs of water from KRS and Kabini reservoirs to Tamil Nadu for 15 days from Sep 13 morning. Karnataka says its current storage cannot even meet the needs of drinking water, standing crops and industrial needs.
