I am going to highlight our covid19 coronavirus response. Dr. Aragon will have more details. I wanted to acknowledge the Department Staff who have been working for over eight weeks in terms of our preparedness and our response in terms of dealing with the coronavirus. Last tuesday i am pleased to announce that mayor breed declared a state of emergency in the city, which was transformative in our ability to better prepare for the response. It allowed us to activate the department to be more focused on the response, coordinate better with other city departments. This is a shared responsibility in terms of our response doing that. We were able to also be eligible for potential federal responses within an emergency response. We were also able to position ourselves to better educate the community and the public

We were also able to position ourselves to better educate the community and the public about how best to prepare for coronavirus and when coronavirus does arrive in San Francisco. A key part of our message is that everyone can be a Good Public Health hero in this response. That includes not going to work or school if you are sick. Stay at home or seek medical attention. Avoid coughing into your hand. Cough into your elbow or sneeze into our elbow. We recommend to not shake hands, but do an elbow bump instead. A key piece moving forward. And also a reminder to get a flu shot, and a flu shot does not prevent coronavirus infection, but it prevents symptoms similar to a coronavirus infection. Get a flu shot to prevent getting symptoms.
