Power cuts in cables across forests to curb jumbo deaths have angered villagers in Jamshedpur, India. The forest and electricity departments' attempts to prevent elephant electrocution have led to power outages in Chakulia, Musaboni, and Baharagora blocks. Around 30 villages are affected by the blackouts, causing inconvenience to the residents and hindering the education of their children. The villagers are demanding a practical solution and have threatened to go on an indefinite strike. The forest department coordinates with the electricity officials to disconnect power in areas where elephants are present. Increasing the height of the overhead transmission wires is seen as a long-term solution to avoid power cuts. The Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd. (JBVNL) is responsible for implementing these measures. The superintendent engineer of JBVNL's Ghatshila division, Deepak Kumar, assures that power is switched off only for a limited period of time.
