arthel: you talk about some of the particulars in terms of why some of these companies might be skittish about hiring and you say that obamacare is perhaps one of those reasons. explain to us. the affordable care act, it s been so confusing and now you ve moved the employer mandate out to 2015. a lot of companies, especially smaller companies, they re holding back and they want to keep their employment levels below certain mandates because they re concerned about obamacare and they re concerned about the cost. that confusion holds back the economy. that s just one item. the other item as i said earlier was tax structure. tort taxes in corporate taxes are way too high. it force companies to keep their money overseas. we have more than a trillion dollars overseas. that money is never coming back and eventually that money will be used for operating capital to start factories and provide jobs outside of this country. arthel: we hear you say that and folks at home are going it s
let me give you a public of how it works. my dad started our business in 1961, 51 year ago, and he invested everything he had. and he also did not take a salary. my mom worked as a nurse on nights and weekends at a local hospital. i was the cook. i was 12 years old. my dad, not taking a salary, also took all the money he made and paid taxes like what happens now, he paid taxes on it. however, he invested that in the business. it became the operating capital, and it s still there today. it s a loan. he paid taxes, but it s money that, yes, he made, reported on his tax return, paid taxes on it, but never saw it. that s the problem, and that s why over 500,000 to maybe 700,000 jobs would be affected. tell me if you could ask for three thing, we talked about health care, we talked about taxes, three things that could help small businesses besides those, what would they be?
not just twitter blaz based, but there are all sorts of new technologies, and more importantly, platforms where in the 90s, you ned for a startup, and today it s literally two guys out of a dorm room doing these things. with 10 to $15,000 in operating capital. right, it s nothing. what keeps me optimistic is the old school, republican versus democrat, obama versus romney. they re the next ones coming. all the technology that basically is taking all the unharshhe issed resources unused houses, unused cars. you have a capacity in which you don t even need the government to deal with this.
we live in, he said it looks like what trees on the moon might look like. it s very eerie. it s been extremely dry out here. one of my friend was explaining to me, she put it well. she said the good weather we have had past couple years, it created a tinder box this year. it grew enough vegetation that it became dry this year. shannon: last i heard, two volunteer firefighters had been killed in connection with these fires. anything we can do for these crews out there or for you? these guys have regular jobs and all their operating capital to fight these fires come directly from community donations. their equipment will have to be
