a lunatic, whether he s deranged all of it is irrelevant. this man believes he can sur mount his current travails. and until the libyan people or the military or somebody takes him out he will. jon: you know, we look at these people out in the streets demonstrating against oppressive governments. i think for a lot of us you feel like, okay, they are demonstrating for freedom, they want human rights, they want the kinds of things that we enjoy in america, but you re saying that you have to be careful what you wish for, i mean the governments that come in after all of these protests have settled are not necessarily going to be friendly to the united states. well, no, all i ll suggesting is that the political space that the united states will have on a lot of its policies now, counterterrorism, containment of iran, once you open the system up and generally reflect
it definitely is ruthless and it s vintage qaddafi. if he can t depend on his own military he s going to depend on his security forces which are even more ruthless, plus his army that s his army. so right now we re in a civil war territory, jon, because the most powerful tribe, the wasalas, have decided they re not going to have any of this, they re not going to be part of a slaughter of the libyan people, and they have turned on him and sided with the protestors. the eastern part of the country, which has the oil, they have already peeled away, they re already in the hands of the protestors, so now you have qaddafi, and those in his capitol fighting for his life and it s so ugly. jon: and he says he s willing to be a martyr and it could turn out that way. i d love to talk to you for hours about qaddafi but we need to turn to iran, the two warships have transited the suez canal. egypt balked at first and then said yes. what are the egyptians
