March 17 (UPI) Two people were killed in an explosion at a Southern California home when a large battery of fireworks ignited, shattering windows and damaging at least two residences in the vicinity, authorities said.
The large explosion occurred at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the the city of Ontario, prompting police to evacuate several neighborhood blocks, Ontario Fire Department Chief Ray Gayk said during an evening press conference.

LOS ANGELES, March 16 (Xinhua) Two people were killed and several others injured following a powerful explosion ignited by commercial-grade fireworks in Ontario, a city of roughly 180,000 residents located 60 km east of downtown Los Angeles.
Firefighters received a call at 12:28 p.m. local time (1928 GMT) on Tuesday and spent more than one hour battling flames, Ontario Fire Department Chief Ray Gayk said at a news conference later in the afternoon.
The authority confirmed that the explosion was caused by a large amount of commercial fireworks stored at a home.
Details about the victims were not immediately available, but Chief Mike Lorenz of the police department said possessing fireworks without a licence was illegal in the city and the explosion prompted an investigation of possible felony or several felonies depending on what cache of fireworks or explosive materials they had in there.
