If you are a Cottage owner, you’re going to get some unwelcome mail in the next few days.
Hydro One is notifying seasonal customers that their rate class is being eliminated and will be moved into a residential rate class. The Federation of Ontario Cottagers Association says this will lead to a bill increase of $50 a month for low-use customers. Half of the 150,000 customers in the province that will be reclassified will see this rate hike.
Executive Director of the Federation Terry Rees says cottagers affected should voice their concerns. He says while the Ontario Energy Board seem to have their mind set on the change, there is still time for cottagers to get their concerns vented to the OEB. Rees says cottagers should consider contacting their MPP.
