Matthew Lombardi explains the new OneEleven's new focus

Matthew Lombardi explains the new OneEleven’s new focus In April of last year, Toronto tech hub and incubator OneEleven abruptly shut down, with its board citing COVID-19 as the reason. By October, OneEleven was back open under new ownership and leadership. “Maybe it’s not quite good enough to just be a collision space. Maybe we have to add a new capability to the arsenal.” – Matthew Lombardi The non-profit, then for-profit, was now a subsidiary of non-profit OCI, formerly called OCE (the Ontario Centres of Excellence), which was one of the original founding organizations behind the original OneElven. What can the Canadian tech and innovation sector expect from #Budget2021?

What can the Canadian tech and innovation sector expect from #Budget2021? As the Government of Canada prepares to table its Budget 2021 on Monday, Canadian tech is wondering how much the sector will factor into the federal recovery plan. With much of Canada struggling with a third wave of COVID-19, the federal government’s recent efforts have been focused on near-term pandemic responses. However, as more vaccines are rolled out, eyes are turning to post-pandemic recovery. Current expectations are that the budget will focus on both pandemic measures and post-pandemic recovery. “What we’re really looking for is to see if the government understands how the economy has changed,” said Ben Bergen, executive director of the Council of Canadian Innovators, a lobbying group that advocates on behalf of more than 100 of Canada’s tech leaders.

Government of Ontario appoints two new members to OCI's board of directors

Government of Ontario appoints two new members to OCI’s board of directors The Ontario government has appointed two new members to the Ontario Centre of Innovation’s (OCI) board of directors. This move follows recent provincial changes to the governance structure of OCI, which delivers a significant portion of the Government of Ontario’s economic development programming. This follows recent changes to OCI’s governance structure to support the Ontario government’s economic recovery goals. Victoria Paine-Mantha and Graeme Moffat have joined OCI’s board of directors effective immediately. Both appointments fill existing vacancies on the Centre’s board, and reflect the Ontario government’s aim to enhance its governance relationship with OCI, which the government claims will better position OCI to support the province’s economic recovery priorities.
