Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has introduced a new technology to confirm the identity of crime suspects by scanning their fingerprints on the spot.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal inaugurated the Onsite Identification and Verification System (OIVS) technology at the home ministry on Sunday.
Explaining how OIVS technology works, Colonel Tofail Mostafa Sarwar, Additional Director General (ADG) of RAB, said, “As soon as someone puts a finger on a device, it will connect to different servers. Apart from NID, passport, crime information and driving license information, law enforcers can know whether they are Rohingya or not.”
Colonel Tofail said, “The software of this technology is made in Bangladesh, but the device has been brought from abroad.”
