Amherst eyes $800K land purchase to build affordable housing

AMHERST – The Town Council on Monday will consider whether to spend $800,000 to buy land off Belchertown Road to be developed into affordable housing.
There will be a presentation of the proposal, followed by council discussion and then a motion and vote, according the council agenda.
The Amherst Municipal Affordable Housing Trust committee convened in executive session in October “to consider the purchase of real property for development of affordable housing. The chair declares that an open meeting may have a detrimental effect on the negotiating position of the Housing Trust. Only Trust members and Town staff may participate.”
